The Westwood Home and School Association would like to welcome you to the 2014/15 school year.
We are looking forward to working with you throughout the year!

To help support activities and equipment that are not normally included in school budgets, we do some fundraising throughout the year. This year our money will go toward playground enhancements, art education, and other initiatives identified to help support our school community.

Our fundraising efforts for 2014/15 will include:
  • A “Westwood Cookbook” created with the help of our Westwood families in September. More information will be coming home soon so dig out your family’s favorite recipe!
  • A Family Fair celebrating Westy’s birthday on Fri, Nov 14/14 including a silent auction and lots of fun kid’s activities.
  • An opportunity to turn your child’s artwork into a memorable keepsake. The artwork can be viewed by parents at Parent/Teacher Interviews held in March. More info will be available at that time.
  • A Mabel’s Labels campaign.

Other Activities
  • Our association supports Staff Appreciation Week with daily prize draws and various treats for all Westwood staff.
  • We are currently advocating for a safer student drop-off/pick-up area in the parking lot.
  • We are continuing to participate in a wider Bluefield family of schools initiative that hopes to create an awareness campaign to improve student achievement by encouraging various forms of parent engagement.
  • We hosted a very successful Robotics night where parents were introduced to Lego Robotics Kits that were purchased by the Home and School Association. The kits and the mini-computers that accompanied them are being incorporated into the school through programming in the library.
  • We will be inviting local artist, Maurice Bernard, to return to the school for a week in the spring to do an art project with each classroom. This initiative will, again, be supported by the Home and School.
  • We have purchased several lice kits to be distributed from the office to parents who needed them.
  • We have purchased new snow shoes for the physical education department of Westwood.
  • We have raised $10,000 for the school’s music department in two years.
  • We continue to improve parent communication by updating our Westwood Home and School website, Facebook page, and Twitter account.
